A composite (I) in the form of a dispersion contg. dispersed phase(s) ()A in a matrix phase (B) is claimed. (A) consists of cured thermoset (II), pref. in the form of particulate inclusions; (B) is pref. a polymeric matrix which wets phase (A) and adheres well to (A) in the solid state, so that (A) is bonded by (B). Also claimed is prepn. of (I), comprising (a) mechanically grinding thermoset (II), (b) placing a liq. curable binder in a mixer, (c) adding (II), (d) mixing to give a homogeneous dispersion, (e) adding a hardener and (f) pouring into a mould or press etc. Phases (A) and (B) are at least largely matched to one another w.r.t. coefft. of thermal expansion. Matrix (B) consists of hardened epoxy resin, polyvinyl acetate or methacrylate resin, and dispersed phase (A) consists of a mechanically reduced e.g. shredded or ground pref. pulverised, thermoset (II). (I) can also contain dispersed mineral additives and colour pigments. USE/ADVANTAGE - The invention enables the prodn. of useful composite materials from cured thermosetting resin materials, so that the latter can be effectively recycled or reprocessed rather than dumped or incinerated.
