The flow meter has a housing (3) with an inlet (1) and an outlet (2) channel connected to a measurement chamber (4) contg. a measurement gear wheel rotor (6) in a measurement section with a light source and receiver. The rotor turns with the flow of fluid and interrupts the light path with opaque regions alternating with transparent regions to produce a number of pulses corresp. to the rotor angular speed and hence the flow rate. The measurement rotor, which rotates about a rigid axis which is fixed at one end, can be made by etching, stamping or by an injection method. ADVANTAGE- Flow meter can be manufactured economically and can be easily assembled, disassembled and cleaned.
