The lightweight mounting is fitted over the brake pads in a floating mounting and has lightweight castings (16,17) each side of the brake disc and four narrow tensile bolts (18) to link the system. The bolts can be fibre reinforced while the castings are webbed for weight reduction. The bolts have threaded ends and at least one hexagonal flange for fastening. Forged flanges at the ends of the threads limit the fastening positions. The threaded ends are screwed into screw inserts pressed into the castings. USE/ADVANTAGE - The cost-effective construction of the disc brake provides a low unsprung mass for the vehicle and is simple to assemble. The system can be adapted to different disc thicknesses simply by changing the lengths of the tensile bolts.
