The collection vehicle has the collection bin (9) tilt mounted on a lower axis on the rear to enable the container to be exchanged. The container is closed by a top part rear flap with pendant mounting. The lower flap (7) is opened and closed by hydraulic drives (11) on the tilt mounted rear bin, and is closed and locked prior to removal of the container. The hydraulic drive each side of the bin has two drive arms (16, 25) rigidly angled to each other on a common axis. One arm is linked to the hydraulic ram (14) while the other arm (25) has a sliding fit into a U-shaped guide (21) on the flap. ADVANTAGE - Provides effortless operation of the container flaps while the container system allows the collection vehicle and crew to continue collection while containers are transferred by conventional vehicles.
