Quick=release clamping bolt for cable storage drum of winch - has end crossbar which passes through slot in mounting plate and can be turned through 90 deg. to trap bolt and tighten drum retaining nut onto end of drum stub axle

The rotatable drum (9) is carried on a stub axle (26) seating in a fixed mounting plate (44) of the winch. The clamping bolt (2) passes through the centre of the axle and has at the bottom end a crossbar (23) which in the release position of the bolt (Fig. 5) can pass through a slot in the mounting plate (44). At the top end of the clamping bolt is a handlever nut (50) which, in the clamping position of the bolt with the crossbar (23) turned through 90 deg., is screwed down to tension the bolt. To release the drum the nut (50) is unscrewed until is abuts against stop nut (33) and pushed downwards against the pressure of spring (35). The bolt can now be turned through 90 deg. and withdrawn with the axle and drum. ADVANTAGE - Drum can be removed quickly without tools.
