Pigment mixt. for variable brightness and colour tone - e.g. in effect lacquer for automobiles, contg. lamellar interference and colour pigments

The mixt. contains: (A) a lamellar interference pigment(s); and (B) a lamellar colour pigment(s). (B) is pref. (i) a lamellar, transparent inorganic matrix contg. a soluble colourant (esp. a coloured metal oxide or a soluble organic dye) or an insoluble colourant (pref. an inorganic pigment) or (ii) a lamellar carrier material supporting particles of a colour pigment. USE/ADVANTAGE - Lacquers, printing inks, plastics systems and coatings pigmented by the mixt. are claimed. The mixts. provide different brightness and colour tones depending on the light incidence and reflection angles, esp. in lacquers for automobiles. The desired colour effect, with good depth and glitter, is obtd. using a single layer of lacquer. The gloss of (A) is not reduced by (B). The pigments are readily incorporated in lacquer systems (e.g. by simple mixing) and are not subject to sedimentation.
