The process according to the invention serves for separation of the material components of a composite material in thermal processes. In this case, the organic material fractions are decomposed thermally and utilised for their energy as process gas in an incineration device operated in parallel, preferably for supplying process heat to the multi-chamber continuous reactor used for carrying out the process. The gas generation, fractionated with respect to temperature and reaction space, permits optimised purification of the pollutant-containing process gases generated in definable process stages and thus makes a contribution to low-emission operation. The oxidation (gasification) of the carbon, which is contained in the composite material or has been separated off in the thermal decomposition process, reduces the quantity of residues obtained to inert, predominantly mineral materials. The inorganic fraction, which can be used as a secondary raw material and is predominantly present as metal, of the composite material is largely reduced to metallic materials and is therefore re-usable at high effectiveness.
