Dietetic prods. for prophylaxis and therapy of smoking-related diseases are in the form of confectionery prods. contg. 0.1-80 mg beta-carotene (I) per dosage unit. The amt. of (I) is 10-20 mg in certain cases. The prods. may be formulated to be suitable for diabetics. (I) is present in the fat phase of fat-contg. prods. or is dispersed in oil. The prods. are in the form of (a) sucking sweets or chewing gum contg. 5 mg (I) per dosage unit, or (b) chocolate. The prods. are packaged in light-protective material. ADVANTAGE - (I) reduces the incidence of lung tumours, inhibits atheroma deposition and has an immunostimulant effect.
