The fuel tank (6) has a venting duct (7) to a storage unit, e.g. an activated charcoal filter (8), which adsorbs the fuel vapour. The adsorbed fractions are desorbed by heating the filter with integral heating elements (9) when a richer mixture is required. An inlet valve (10) controls an inlet air flow to sweep out the released vapour. A processor control (14) monitors the engine parameters and controls the fuel/air flow into the engine. A pump (12) extracts additional fuel/air mixture from the filter and pumps it into the inlet manifold between the throttle valve and the inlet valve. ADVANTAGE - Uses vented fuel to provide additional mixture, e.g. to counteract knocking, to assist cold starting. Improved fuel efficiency.
