Treatment comprises heating medium to an evapn. temp. below the b.pt. of water after movement in batches to a concn. evaporator (1). A jet system (6) over the medium (4) level (5) sprays the medium feed. The evaporated water is passed to a condenser (8) with a catch vessel (9) for the water outlet (17). When the water flow through the outlet (17) falls below a given vol., the jet (6) feed is interrupted and the treated medium is taken from the concentrator (1). A further jet system (7) in the concentrator (1) sprays the medium over the medium (4) level (5). The concentrator (1) has an initial zone (2) where the medium is held and heated in a batch (4). A 2nd zone (3) contains a condenser (8) and a catch container (9). The two zones (2,3) have a flow connection (10) between them, for evaporated water, above the level (5) of the medium (4). A level monitor (14) in the 1st section (2) activates the heating (14) when the medium is at a given level in the section (2). A flow vol. meter (18) is at the water outlet side which, in one setting, stops the flow of medium to be treated and, in a 2nd and lower setting, stops the jet (6) feed and also generates a signal for the medium to be removed. A heat exchanger (13) is in the flow path of the evaporated water from the medium for preheating. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used for the treatment of a process medium, which contains water in an emulsion. The water is extracted effectively from the medium, without carrying any toxic matter in the vapour.
