Electrically conducting silicone gel - contg. silver coated mica and oxide free silver@ flakes are non-flowing, self-curing and thermally stable and have good conductivity

An electrically conducting silicone gel (I), contg. a combination of silver coated mica (II) and silver flakes (III) is claimed. (I) is a non-flowing, self curing and thermally stable gel with a volume resistance of less than 2.0 milliohm-cm. Pref. (I) contains 60-75 wt.% conductor particles with the ratios of (III):(II) of 2:1. (I) is a cross-linked polysiloxane polymer, pref. a polydimethyl-siloxane with vinyl end gps., cross-linked with a flexible cross-linking agent using a dichlorocarbonyl platinum (II) catalyst. (III) is cleaned and etched to roughen its surface, before addn. to (I), in order to improve contact between neighbouring (III) and (II). (I), (II) and (III) are mixed together in an atmosphere essentially devoid or air. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) is useful for connection to a multitude of conductors such as insulated wires, printed circuit boards, rails and other conductors. (I) has improved conductivity and resistance to the diffusion of damaging environmental gases such as sulphur.
