Heat resistant material for lining glass melting furnaces - contains high amount of zirconium di:oxide plus small amounts of silicon di:oxide, aluminium oxide and sodium- or potassium- oxide

A mother castable heat resistant material with a high ZrO2 content comprises in wt.% 90-95 SrO2; 3.5-7 SiO2; 1.2-3 Al2O3 and 0.1-0.35 Na2O and/or K2O with essentially no P2O5, B2O3 or CuO. The material pref. contains 0.1-0.35 wt.% Na2O. The pref. amounts of other mateterial are 3.5-6 SiO2 and 1.2-2.5 Al2O3. Each of the impurities, P2O5, B2O3 and CuO are present in amounts of less than 0.02 wt.%. USE/ADVANTAGE - As brick lining for galss melting furnaces. Has excellent corrosion resistance to glass, does not tend to crack when in contact with hot glass and does not discolour the glass.
