A measurement gradient (GM-) is first applied in a first direction to a spatially extended sample (P) and a first complex signal (S1) is acquired by a first gradient echo sequence. A measurement gradient pulse (GM+) is subsequently switched on in a direction opposite to the first direction and a second complex signal (S2) is acquired using a second gradient echo sequence. One of the signals (S1, S2) is phase-corrected using the phase information of the other signal, so that the remaining phase then only represents the magnetic field induced by the eddy currents which were resolved by the measurement gradients (GM).
