Thermal waste disposal system allows thermal energy recovery from carbonisation gas - including appts. to extract thermal energy at shock cooling unit, between reactor and cooling unit, and between cooling unit and cleaning unit
A thermal waste disposal system has a press for the waste, a heated degassing channel, a high temp. reactor producing a melt and carbonisation gases, a shock cooling unit and a cleaning unit for the carbonisation gases. An arrangement is provided for extracting the thermal energy of the carbonisation gases at one or more of the following points; (a) at the shock cooling unit, (b) between the reactor and the shock cooling unit and/or (c) between the reactor and the cleaning unit with an integrated shock cooling unit. Pref. the shock cooling unit has a cooling jacket, through which a coolant flows. A waste heat boiler, with a heat exchanger, may be located between the reactor and the shock cooling unit. When the shock cooling unit is integrated in the cleaning unit, the cleaning unit is connected to a heat exchanger. ADVANTAGE - The thermal energy, normally lose in the shock cooling unit (quencher), is recovered for use e.g. in the waste disposal process itself, for electrical energy prodn. or for heating the degassing channel.
