The cooling system has cooling devices (4) used to keep the cooling medium in gas form e.g. freon, at a given temp. A compressor is included which can be operated in two modes. The compressor rotation speed is controlled by an operation frequency. In one mode, n + 1 cooling devices are operated at one frequency. In the second mode, n of the n + 1 cooling devices are operated at a second frequency. A heat source (3) is provided for the cooling medium, and a fault detection arrangement (22, 14) detects faults in the individual cooling devices. There are n+1 cooling devices in parallel. ADVANTAGE - Cooling devices can be individually controlled without affecting cooling of whole system.
