Prepn. of highly pure organoboranate complexes (I) from triarylborane (II) and alkali metal alky or aryl cpds. (III) comprising dripping a soln. of (III) in a hydrocarbon solvent (IVA) and/or a linear ether solvent (IVB) into a soln. of (II) in (IVA) and/or (IVB) at -80 to 25 deg.C. Pref. (II) is obtd. by reacting aryl-Mg halide (V) with B trihalide and carefully removing unreacted (V) and the Mg salt formed as by-prod. (V) pref. is used in excess of the theoretical.
