A scan unit enables defined positioning of a transmitted, locally-limited beam from a source (3). A receiver positionally and spatial-angle resolves the transmitted beam components. An evaluation unit (10) determines a positionally-resolved density distribution from the signal recorded by the scan unit. The scan unit's source contains at least one point light source.
