Materials (24) to be alloyed are loaded together with grinding balls (26) into grinding cups (22) of a planet mill (10) incorporating a driven sun wheel (14) and at least one planet wheel (16) carrying a grinding cup.The angular velocities of the two wheels (14, 16), dependent on the ratio of the inner radius of the grinding cup to the radius of the wheel (14), are chosen so that the grinding balls (26) produce impacts on the materials (24) with an energy which is sufficient for mechanical alloying.
