The device is attachable to the body portion of the syringe (1), and includes a finger grip (21) configured for engagement by at least one finger while another finger of the same hand engages the plunger member (11) of the syringe. The device has a base (20) with an opening (22) for passage of the syringe body. At least two side plates (23) extend from the base parallel to the axis of the syringe body to a pair of locking portions (24) which engage against the inner face of an end flange (110) of the plunger. The finger grip(s) are formed as integral projections of the base.
