A pressurised air rail 6 produces an atomized fuel spray 19 for injection into the individual combustion chambers 17 and oil for lubrication is atomized by metering it into a stream of compressed air taken from the rail or a reservoir connected thereto. The resulting oil-air mist is injected through nozzles 10a 10b and 10c and 10d or 10e to lubricate the main bearings 24, the big ends 23, the small ends 20 and the piston 13. IMAGE
