PURPOSE:To reduce the size of a laser scanner by forming a fixed hologram by using a circular polarized wave. CONSTITUTION:A hologram formed by using a plane wave 22 and the circular polarized wave 23 is used as the fixed hologram, and divergent scanning light 16E generated with the circular polarized wave which has an axis at right angles to the axial direction 35 of the circular polarized wave when the fixed hologram 34 is formed is made incident on the fixed hologram 34. When the divergent scanning light 16E by the circular polarized wave is made incident on the hologram formed by using the plane wave and circular polarized wave, divergent scanning light 16D by image forming light is reproduced. Consequently, a readout area is widened and the size of a laser scanner is reduced more.
