PURPOSE:To simply calculate a service index showing the road surface property of the paving of a road, by utilizing the correlativity of the unevenness displacement range of a road surface in the longitudinal section direction measured by a road surface property measuring machine. CONSTITUTION:A road surface property measuring machine is provided with the longitudinal section profile meter 2 connected to a vehicle 1, a recorder 7 recording the unevenness displacement of a road surface measured by said meter 2 and a running distance measuring shaft 5 and continuously measures the unevenness displacement of the road surface in the longitudinal section direction thereof while running. At this time, the predetermined section of the measuring lane in the paving of a road is divided so as to have a definite min. measuring length and the difference (range) between the max. and min. values of the unevenness displacement of the road surface in the longitudinal section direction at every min. measuring length is measured while the measuring machine is allowed to run. The measured ranges are averaged in the predetermined section and operation is performed from the average value of the measured unevenness displacement ranges on the basis of the correlation between the unevenness displacement range preliminarily calculated from experience and the service index of paving to make it possible to calculate a service index.
