PURPOSE:To obtain a smooth gradation recording image by freely changing a transfer recording area around the high resistance part of a heat generator, by a method where in the resistance values provided between the first, second and third electrodes are made low toward the vicinal parts of the first, second and third electrodes and made higher toward the central parts of the heat generators. CONSTITUTION:Since the outside shape of each of heat generators 6 is formed into an almost circular arc shape and the width of each heat generator is made narrowest at the central part thereof, the resistances of the places A1-A4 at the central parts of the heat generators 6 becomes higher in the connection direction of electrodes and a current is concentrated to the places A1-A4. When thermal recording is performed while the applying time of the voltage applied across the first and second electrodes 5a, 5b is changed, only the most central parts of the high resistance places A1-A4 on the heat generators 6 reach the m.p. of the ink on a thermal transfer ink sheet at the time (T1) when a voltage applying time is short and four extremely fine divided dots are formed on image receiving paper by transfer recording. When the voltage apply time is made successively longer (T2-T4), a recording dot is formed to the entire region of heat generating elements and resolving power is relative high as compared with the arranging density of the heat generating elements.
