PURPOSE:To obtain a substance of antimicrobial action having high antimicrobial action, germicidal action, excellent light stability and safety comprising an N-long-chain acylamino acid salt of metal having antimicrobial action. CONSTITUTION:A substance of antimicrobial action is obtained from a salt (e.g., silver N-stearoylglutamate) of a metal such as gold, copper lead, zinc or tin having antimicrobial action and an N-long-chain acylamino acid. The acyl group of the salt of N-long-chain acylamino acid is stearoyl, lauroyl, myristoyl or palmitoyl. The aimed substance has stable acryl group, the metal is stable to light rays, especially to ultravio let rays and the substance will not cause discoloration even by adding to resin, foam, coating compound, synthetic fibers, paper, etc. Further the aimed substance has a fundamental skeleton of amino acid, low toxicity, safety, stability, can be added to packaging materials in a wide range for foods, etc., and leaves a small amount of residue after incineration. A synthetic resin containing the aimed substance is molded to give antibacterial water tanks.
