PURPOSE: To make it possible to economically mass-produce superconducting epitaxial films with high quality by bringing a melt of the oxides of Bi, Ca, Cu, etc., and MgO or single crystal material into contact and subjecting both to liquid phase epitaxial growth. ;CONSTITUTION: B2O3 is mixed with the calcined matter obtd. mixing CaCO3, SrCO3 and CuO so as to attain a molar ratio of Ca:Sr:Cu of 3:3:4 and calcining the mixture at about 850°C, to obtain an oxide powder mixture of 4:3:3:4 in the molar ratio of Bi:Ca:Sr:Cu. Next, this mixture is arranged in a growth apparatus (a) consisting of high-purity quartz, gold sheet lines, etc., and is melted for 0.5 to 5 hours at a temp. of 900 to 950°C in a furnace, to obtain the melt. Next, this melt is brought into contact with an MgO substrate within a rotary quartz apparatus (b) and the temp. is lowered at a ratio of 0.3 to 2°C/min to form the Bi-Ca-Sr-Cu-oxide superconducting epitaxial film C. After the furnace is kept at a temp. of 880 to 820°C, the melt is separated from the MgO substrate and is rapidly cooled. The superconducting epitaxial film having a thickness of 40 to 150 μm is thus formed.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO
