PURPOSE:To provide a method with which the high efficiency and high performance, biological deodorization of a malodorous gas contg. sulfur-based odorous substances can be performed by adding a sulfur oxidation accelerator into the deodorizing tower or into the spray water to be supplied to the deodorizing tower. CONSTITUTION:In this deodorizing method, the sewage activated sludge is immobilized by circulating the spray water, that is obtained by adding the sewage activated sludge to the spray water tank 9, with the spray water pump 11 through the immobilizing carrier 2, with which the deodorizing tower 1 is packed. At the time of performing the circulation for about one day, the liquid in the spray water tank 9 is clarified and the sewage activated sludge is immobilized on the immobilizing carrier 2. After the immobilization of the activated sludge, a malodorous gas contg. gaseous hydrogen sulfide is allowed to pass through the deodorizing tower 1 in an upward stream. At the same time, an ammonium phosphate aq. solution used as a nutrient salt of the microorganisms and ferric chloride used as a sulfur oxidation accelerator are added by using the pump 3 to the spray water tank 9 which is provided with the ORP sensor 8, ORP controller 7, blower 13 for the aeration, pH sensor 6, pH controller 5 and pump 14 for adding a pH neutralizing agent. Then the spray water from the spray water tank 9 is sprayed from the upper part of the deodorizing tower 1 by using the spray water pump 11.
