PURPOSE: To provide a slow-burning covering system having superior fireproof performance and superior resistance to the temperature cycle at low cost by using a substrate covered with a mastic foamable slow-burning covering having a low-weight carbon mesh embedded therein. CONSTITUTION: A covering 102 is applied to an exposed surface of a column 100. Carbon mesh 104, which is embedded in the covering 102, is made of a soft and incombustible material holding its structural strength under the temperature of 900 deg.F or more. A carbon yarn and a carbon yarn precursor are suited to this purpose. It is preferable that at least 60% of an oxidized fiber formed in the heating process is carbon. The carbon mesh 104 has opening of 1/2 inch or less so as to allow the suitable foaming of the covering 102. The used carbon yarn is desirable to have the weight less than 11b/yd2 . Various kinds of yarns such as a plain weave, a satin, or a basket weave can be used.
