PURPOSE: To easily and quickly install a ballast raking chain into a ballast by a method wherein a suction pipe which is adjustable in the vertical and transverse directions is provided and a negative pressure device is connected to a suction opening. ;CONSTITUTION: A machine frame 5 is supported on undercarriages 4, 4 running on a track, and ballast is delivered to a screening device 11 by a raking device 6 equipped with a revolvable raking chain 7. Cleaned ballast is thrown onto the track 3 by a conveyor 13. A machine 1 described as above comprises a suction pipe 18 which is adjustable in the vertical and transverse directions by means of driving devices 36, 43, and a negative device 19 is connected to a suction opening 17 of the suction pipe. Then, with the ballast raking chain 7 set in the ballast 2, ballast excavating works in the ballast 2 are executed without depending on any manual operation.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
