PURPOSE: To easily determine a stress distribution including the stress component of an elastic body by combining the temperature change pattern of the elastic body surface by thermal elastic effect with the analysis data by numerical stress analysis. ;CONSTITUTION: The surface of a model 1 whose main stress sum is determined is divided into elements (j), and the main stress sum (σ1+σ2+σ3) in the inner point (j) is assumed to be Z(j). The temperature change ΔT pattern of the object 1 surface is detected by utilizing thermal elastic effect to determine the main stress sum [σx+σy+σz=Z(j)]. The contact coordinate, constraining condition, elastic coefficient, a coordinate to which an external force P(i) is added, and the main stress sum Z(j) in the inner point (j) which are necessary for the numerical stress analysis of a model having the same form as the object 1, are inputted. The main stress sum F(i, j) when P(i)=1 is applied to one specified external force, is determined by numerical stress analysis. The distribution of the external force P(i) giving a main stress sum distribution close to the actual main stress sum distribution Z(j) is determined by superposition principle and least square from Z(j), F(i, j), and stress components σx to Jzx are determined from the distribution P(i).;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
