PURPOSE: To provide a method for detecting attribute of a city gas pipe system and an apparatus for executing the same in which attribute of a tube can be accurately identified with high operability. ;CONSTITUTION: The method for detecting attribute of a pipe system of city gas comprises the steps of feeding arbitrary reference sound wave as a detection reference from outside into city gas pipes continuously connected, detecting sound wave vibration propagated through the gas pipe at the pipe to be identified by a vibration pickup 8 from surfaces of gas meters 1-4, converting vibration data detected by the pickup 8 into a waveform to display it on a display unit of a sound wave detector 9, judging presence or absence of sound wave vibration detection corresponding to the reference wave based on its display, and identifying whether the pipe to be identified belongs to a pipe system in which the reference wave is fed or not.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
