The system investigates and quantifies each stage in a production chain to determine the stage's proportionate contribution to the company's output, profit margin, investment and overhead cost. The chain is a natural progression of stages from purchase of raw materials to selling of the finished product. The resulting data can then be "modelled" to assess the overall effects of changes in production methods, staffing, management techniques, testing standards, throughput, etc. at each stage.
