Halogen of a polyhalogenated aromatic can be transferred to monohalogenated or unhalogenated aromatics by reaction in the presence of ruthenium in the form of an element or in the form of compounds and, if appropriate, one or more metal compounds from sub-groups I and II of the Periodic System.
