The invention relates to a paddle for canoes, in particular Canadian canoes and kayaks. The object of the invention is to pull the blade of the paddle through as close to and as parallel to the longitudinal axis of the boat as possible in an ergonomically favourable manner. The paddle is to be simple to produce, light, wear-resistant and break-proof and is to keep down the flapping of the blade. This object is achieved according to the invention by the shaft (5) being bulged out on the blade side and in the main extension plane of the blade (6), the profile of the bulging (2) being adapted to the boat half profile (1), to be manoeuvred in each case, in the pulling area of the paddle and its position in this area.
