The invention is characterised in that the pallets (2) pass through a first work station and a second work station, in that the transverse rests (3) are picked up at the first work station by means of a gripper device (16), are placed on a stacking plane (20) and cleaned, stacked and magazined by means of a magazining and cleaning device (1), and in that subsequently the marking-out of the new contour required and the dimensionally correct placing of the transverse rests (3) is carried out at the second work station on the pallets (2) using a large-scale plotter (25) which is additionally provided with a laying-out magazine (24) for stacking the transverse rests (3).
