Process for the utilisation of used acid-activated bentonite containing saponifiable constituents

A process is described for the utilisation (valorisation) of used acid-activated bentonite containing saponifiable constituents, which is characterised in that the saponifiable constituents adhering to the acid-activated bentonite are saponified using a basic alkali metal compound, with the soap being left on the acid-activated bentonite, whereupon the mixture thus obtained is used for the activation of alkaline earth metal bentonites. The reaction product thus obtained can be used as foundry bentonite with exploitation of the saponified constituents as bright carbon formers.
