A closure for bottles, especially wine bottles, that have an annular bulge on the outside of the neck at a slight distance from the lip consists of a stopper with a plug that can be pressed into the neck and a collar that rests on or encompasses the lip of the bottle as well as a casing that has a top cover and jacket enclosing the stopper and the neck of the bottle at its upper end, with catch elements disposed within both to secure the stopper in the casing and to snap-lock the thus-formed closure behind the annular bulge on the neck of the bottle. On the inside wall of the jacket (7) of the casing (6, 7) two mutually offset rings of catch nibs (11, 12) are provided at different distances from the top cover (6), with the catch nibs (11) of the ring closest to the cover serving to secure the stopper (3, 4, 5) in the casing (6, 7), said stopper having for this purpose a circumferential catch edge (16), and with the catch nibs (12) of the other ring correspondingly further removed from the cover (6) serving to engage behind the annular bulge (2) on the neck (1) of the bottle. The top cover (6) of the casing (6, 7) has recesses (13, 14) aligned with the catch nibs (11, 12); the dimensions of said recesses (13, 14) are at least the size of the projecting faces of the catch nibs (11, 12) and provide for the penetration and extraction of the requisite molding tools (mandrels) used in the manufacture of the casing.
