A device with an infra-red seeker head for the detection and destruction of enemy helicopters is produced with, as the IR detector (14), a two-dimensional matrix of a large number of point-like detecting cells (15) located in the focal plane of the IR lens (13) of the seeker head, the detecting cells operating over a range of wavelengths between 3 and 14 mu m or over part of this range; for determining the angular position of the helicopter (16), the cells are interrogated individually and successively by an operating system fast enough for all the measured values to be transmitted almost simultaneously.
