Amphotericin B composition with enhanced fungal activity

Fungal infections are treated by administering a combination of PP(a) amphotericin B, andPP(b) a glycerol ether selected from the group consisting ofPP(i) HOCH.sub. 2 CHOHCH.sub.2 OR,PP(ii) HOCH.sub.2 CH(OR.sub.1) CH.sub.2 OH, andPP(iii) combinations thereof,P P wherein R and R.sub.1 are independently selected from the group consisting of C.sub.8 -C.sub.18 and C.sub.8 -C.sub.18 alkenyl.P PThe glycerol ether acts synergistically to reduce the minimum inhibitory concentration of amphotericin B. The combination is particularly effective against Cryptococcus and Candida species.
