PURPOSE: To more enhance collision resistant performance in comparison to increase of weight and structural costs by providing a long size tank-like structure extended over almost total length along both port and starboard side top shells. ;CONSTITUTION: In the case where a tanker 1 is collided by a bulk carrier 2 against her barrel, since width of a bow upper part, 3 of the bulk carrier 2 is much wider in comparison to the width of a bulbous bow 4, a damage region of hull side structure of the tanker 1 is larger at a gunwale part 5 than a hull side central part 6. Since a collision may be caused at any place in the longitudinal direction of a ship, reinforcement for enhancement of the collision resistant performance must be conducted continuously in the ship lengthwise direction. For this reason, the gunwale part 5 of a ship is provided with a tank-like structure continuously in the ship lengthwise direction. With this constitution, the collision resistant performance can be increased more effectively than reinforcement of other parts such as the hull side central parts 6. An inclination angle of an inclined inner plate of the tank-like structure to a vertical line is determined to be 25°-40°.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
