PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently obtain a high crystallinity titanyl fluorophthalocyanine having excellent electrophotographic characteristics and useful for electrophotographic elements and the like in a high yield by dissolving a titanyl fluorophthalocyanine in an acid and subsequently treating the solution under a specific condition. ;SOLUTION: This method for preparing a titanyl fluorophthalocyanine having high crystallinity and having Bragg angle 2θ peaks at 7.2°, 11.9°, 134°, 15.8°, 23.4°, 24.5° and 27.1° comprises dissolving a titanyl fluorophthalocyanine of the formula [(k), (1), (m), and (n) are each 0-4] in an acid, admixing the solution and water to precipitate out the amorphous titanyl fluorophthalocyanine having Bragg angle 2 θ peaks at 6.6°, 13.4°, 15.8° and 26.1° in X ray having a wavelength of 1.541 Å of CuK α in X ray diffraction spectrum, washing the amorphous titanyl fluorophthalocyanine until substantially all of the acid is removed, bringing the amorphous titanyl fluorophthalocyanine into contact with an organic solvent to convert the amorphous titanyl fluorophthalocyanine into the high crystallinity titanyl fluorophthalocyanine, and holding the water contact state of the amorphous titanyl fluorophthalocyanine.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
