BELT COATING MATERIAL FOR BELT TYPE THIN SLAB CASTER

PURPOSE: To obviate the interposition of the scum existing in molten steel into a slab by attracting and removing the scum with a belt coating material for a belt type thin slab caster. ;CONSTITUTION: The molten steel 30 is supplied from a pouring nozzle 27 into a mold section 20 formed of a pair of belts 21 traveling around a pulley 22 and a pair of side dams 23 held by these belt and the slab 33 is drawn from below. The belt coating material 1 is applied from coating nozzles 25 onto the surfaces of the belts 21. The belt coating material 1 is prepd. by mixing powder consisting of 10 to 40wt.% SiO₂, 1 to 10wt.% Al₂O₃, 10 to 40wt.% CaO, 1 to 10wt.% Fe₂O₃ and 0.1 to 10wt.% B₂O₃ and having an average grain size of ≤10μm, water glass of 0.5 to 10wt.% of the weight of the powder, a thickener and water. The belt coating material 1 intrudes between the belts 21 and a solidified shell 32 and melts therein, thereby attracting and removing the scum 34.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
