PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a magnetic alloy having excellent Perminvar characteristics at low magnetic field excitations by heat-treating an alloy which is glassy and contains Co, Fe, Ni, B, Si, C, Al, Ge or the like, each in a specific content. ;SOLUTION: The glassy metal alloy comprising at least 70% of a glassy material and having a composition of the formula XaZc (X contains at least two members selected from the group consisting of Co, Fe and Ni; Z contains at least two members selected from the group of B, Si, C, Al and Ge; (a) and (c) are in atomic percent, a+c=100; (a) is in the range of 72-76, (c) is in the range of 25-27; in the X, Co and Fe are contained in an amount of 66-71 and 2.5-4.5 atomic %, respectively, and in the Z, B is contained in an amount of 6-24 atomic %), is used. The glassy metal alloy has a value of magneto-striction of -1×10-6 to +1×10-6. The glassy metal alloy is heat-treated at a temp. between about 50-100°C below its first crystallization temp. for a time period of 15-180 min., and then cooled to room temp. at a rate slower than about -60°C/min to obtain the magnetic alloy having a constricted hysteresis loop.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
