PURPOSE: To improve a composing method for a continuous stroke dictionary and facilitate dictionary learning by reading a decomposed stroke group out of a continuous stroke conversion dictionary, replacing input strokes with the decomposed stroke group, and then performing character recognition by using the character recognition dictionary. CONSTITUTION: A character recognition engine part 15 recognizes whether or not a continuous stroke similar to respective input strokes in an ink data storage part 14 is present in the continuous stroke recognition dictionary 21. Then when the continuous stroke is found, the pointer corresponding to the continuous stroke is used to read the decomposed stroke group out of the continuous stroke conversion dictionary, the input strokes are replaced with the read decomposed stroke group, and the character recognition dictionary 22 is used to perform the character recognition on the basis of the ink data after the replacement. Consequently, the total scale of the continuous stroke dictionary 21 becomes small to facilitate the dictionary learning.
