PURPOSE: To improve oxidation resistance and strength at high temp. by incorporating silicon carbide whiskers and specified silicate ceramics. ;CONSTITUTION: Silicon carbide whiskers are added by 5-40wt.% to 60-95wt.% silicate ceramics selected from among silicates of group IVa elements of the Periodic Table, silicates of rare earth elements and mullite. They are wet-mixed, dried and fired to obtain the objective ceramic composite material contg. ≤1wt.%, in total, of one or more kinds of impurities selected from among alkali metals alkaline earth metals, group IVa elements of the Periodic Table, rare earth elements and aluminum oxide and increasing its weight by ≤1mg/cm2 after holding at 1,300°C for 100hr in the air.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
