PURPOSE: To provide a corrosive environment monitor in which the progress of corrosion in an environment is monitored by representing the mechanical characteristics of a piezoelectric element in the form of an electric equivalent circuit and tracking the variation in the constants of circuit elements. ;CONSTITUTION: The sensor head of a corrosive environment sensor comprises a thin metal film to be measured formed on a piezoelectric substrate 1. The frequency response characteristics of impedance of the sensor are then measured and an equivalent circuit is analyzed based on the data thus obtained in order to calculate the constants of circuit elements. Information related to the corrosion rate based on the calculation results, the remaining life of the objective material, and the characteristics of corrosive environment is than presented on a display 5 equipped with an equipment issuing alarm, when required.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
