PURPOSE: To obtain the new subject gene encoding tyrosine phenollyase of Citrobacter freundii and useful for production or the like of a tyrosine phenollyase which is a polyfunctional enzyme capable of synthesizing L-tyrosine, L-dopa or the like in high efficiency. ;CONSTITUTION: This new gene is the gene encoding tyrosine phenollyase derived from Citrobacter freundii KCTC2006, and encoding the new tyrosine phenollyase having a base sequence including the base sequence of the formula and capable of industrially advantageously producing tyrosine phenollyase which is a polyfunctional enzyme capable of synthesizing L-tyrosine from phenol and L- serine, or from ammonia and pyruvic acid, and L-dopa from catechol, L-serine or ammonia and the pyruvic acid by a recombinant gene technique. The gene is obtained by subjecting chromosome DNA separated from the Citrobacter freundii KCTC2006 to a restriction enzyme treatment, fusing a fragment with a vector, introducing the fused vector into a host and allowing the host to express the DNA, and gathering the gene from the positive clone.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
