PURPOSE: To produce heterocyclic acetic acids, a starting substance for medicines because of its plant physiologic activity, practically in a high yield. ;CONSTITUTION: (A) A compound of formula I [R1-R4 are independently from each other, H, a lower alkyl, an aralkyl, a lower alkoxy, F, Cl, nitro; B is -NHCOOR5, -OCOOR5 (R5 is methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl), -NH2,-NHR6 (R6 is a 1-5C alkyl, allyl, benzyl), hydroxyl] is reacted with (B) 2,5-dihydro-2,5- dimethoxyfuran in the presence of a Pd catalyst followed by ring closure to give (C) a substituted indole-3-acetic acid and (D) a substituted benzofuran-3- acetic acid of formula II (A is -NH,-NR6, O). The product C is obtained by using a compound of formula III as a component A, while the product D using a compound of formula IV.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
