PURPOSE: To differentiate a particle size of an inside member of a composite blank from that of the outside member so as to provide the composite blank suitable for ultrasonic wave thickness monitoring by thermally mechanically processing a composite tube type blank which is prepared by cold rolling and heating a composite extruded blank. ;CONSTITUTION: A composite extruded blank is cold rolled and heated, and a composite tube type blank constituting a Zy2/Zr composite coated tube is provided. Thermal mechanical processing is carried out properly in a forged Zircaloy 2 bar in the α phase after water quenching from the β phase, and/or a bored Zircaloy 2 billet quenched and annealed if necessary, and/or α non-alloy zirconium billet after extrusion into a pipe shape in the a phase, and/or a composite tube type blank after cold rolling. A Zircaloy 2 particle size of the composite blank is adjusted to ASTM index 9-12, while a non-alloy zirconium particle size is adjusted to ASTM index 6-10, and a particle size difference ΔI between the Zircaloy and the non-alloy zirconium is kept to at least 2 in the ASTM index.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
