In the prepn. of a mono(meth)acrylate (I) of a 4-6 C alkandiol (II) from an aq. soln. contg. (I) and (II) by solvent extn., the organic solvent used for extn. is selected from esters (III) of 1-4 C alkanecarboxylic acids and 1-5 C alkanols, simple and mixed 4-8 C dialkyl ethers (IV) and mixts. of these. Also claimed is a method of prepn. and sepg. (I).
