The present invention relates to a new method and apparatus for adjusting an IDCT mismatch occurring when an encoder and a decoder use different IDCT apparatuses under any condition.;The matching between the encoder and the decoder is accomplished by selectively setting a small series of small DCT coefficients that cause mismatching to zero in the encoder. Accordingly, the present invention is advantageous in that the cost and complexity of the system can be minimized by performing deconvolution mismatching independently in the encoder and applying a general decoder to the decoder.
